Welcome to First Grade

Can you believe it!  We are just a few days away from meeting each other and getting this fantastic first grade year underway!  I am really looking forward to working alongside you this year, and getting to know your child! I am sure you would like to know a little about me. This is my 22nd year of teaching, with 10 of those years being in 1st grade and all of those years being in Lutheran schools either in Michigan or South Florida.

I have been married to my husband, Mike, for 23 years, and we together have 3 kids: Rachel (19), a sophomore at Grand Valley State, Caroline (17), a senior at LHN, and Caleb (15), a sophomore at LHN. So, needless to say, I LOVE that I am just a soccer field apart from most of them!

When I am not busy teaching first grade, or being a mommy (because let's be real...that just doesn't end even when they are in college!), I get the opportunity to speak to groups of teachers about all sorts of topics: Seesaw in the classroom, Engaging Learners, Reigniting your Fire for Teaching. I love the littles, but I also LOVE encouraging other teachers to try new ideas and stay excited for the best job there is! Outside of school, I love to read books, lay out in the sun, and attend Zumba classes!

I have lots of great ideas for connecting and communicating this school year. One of the first things I would love for you to do is download a QR reader (any free one from the app store will work!) Your kiddos will be using QR codes throughout the school year to surprise and impress you! Also, your child will have an online learning journal located on Seesaw, so if you haven't yet, download the Seesaw Family App onto your device. We will make sure you get connected when we sit, face to face.

If you haven't used Seesaw before, here is a GREAT 3-min video that explains how we will use Seesaw in our classroom.

Finally, be sure to sign up for a time to come visit our classroom! I will have lots of information for you, and would LOVE to give you a tour of first grade! Be sure to bring any school supplies with you, as well. We will find a home for them together. Please call the school office or sign up via the link sent from the school for a time that works for your family.

You can reach me by email at khardies@splcs.net or karlahardies@gmail and by text/phone at 586-610-4511.

God's blessings on the rest of your summer! I will see you soon!
